# Daily routine with Parkinson's

Parkinson's makes timing everything. Building the day around the hours that tend to work best is more effective than pushing through the ones that do not.

## Plan around the good hours

Most people notice a pattern: certain parts of the day are reliably easier. Put the demanding things — the shower, the walk, the outing — into those windows and leave the rest genuinely light.

A written note of how each day went is useful evidence at the next clinic appointment, where fluctuation is exactly what the specialist nurse wants to hear about.

## Structure that helps

- Fixed mealtimes, with plenty of fluid, and enough time to eat unhurried.
- Daily movement of some kind, guided by the physiotherapist or a Parkinson's-specific exercise class.
- Appointments earlier in the day where possible.
- Nothing important scheduled immediately after a big meal or a long journey.
- Rest that is planned rather than an admission of defeat.

## Medication is not our territory

Timing of Parkinson's medication is genuinely critical and belongs entirely with the specialist nurse, GP and pharmacy. We deliberately do not support medication reminders, and you should not use us for them.

What we can do is the surrounding routine: drinks, meals, exercises, appointments and a call from family.

## Keeping family involved without hovering

Short scheduled prompts mean the household is not constantly asking whether something has been done. That single change does a lot for the atmosphere in a home.

## The wider picture

around 153,000

people in the UK are living with Parkinson's.

around 1 in 3

people aged 65 and over have at least one fall a year.

## Being straight with you

You Care Reminders is a non-medical wellness tool, not a monitoring service and not an alarm. Delivery is best effort rather than guaranteed, and it must not be used for medication reminders. If you are worried about someone's health, speak to their GP; in an emergency, call 999.

## Questions carers ask

### Who can help locally?

### Can you remind about medication times?

### What about falls?

### Do reminders need a smartphone?

## Set the first reminder tonight

It takes about five minutes, costs nothing to start, and the person you care for has nothing to install.
